How Do I Track the Status of My UK Visa Application?

Check the status of UK Visa

After applying for a UK visa from Thailand, you may receive an application reference, appointment notifications and later a message saying a decision has been made. These updates do not provide a live view of UKVI’s assessment. The reliable way to know the outcome is to wait for the formal decision notification and follow its instructions.

Waiting for a UK visa decision?

Tell us which visa you applied for and when you gave biometrics. We can help you check the relevant published processing time and understand any message you have received.

Can I track a UK visa decision with my GWF number?

Your GWF number is an application reference. Keep it available when checking your application correspondence or contacting the appropriate service. It is not a code that reveals whether the visa has been approved or refused.

A visa application centre may provide updates about appointment or document-handling stages. Those updates should not be confused with a detailed account of UKVI’s assessment or a formal decision.

When does the UKVI processing time start?

For an application made outside the UK, UKVI says processing starts when you attend the visa application centre to provide biometrics, or when you verify identity and submit the application using the UK Immigration: ID Check app, if you are instructed to use it. Paying for and submitting an online form before a later biometrics appointment does not necessarily start the processing clock.

Read the current processing times for applications outside the UK. Our forum also explains whether waiting time starts at the application or biometrics appointment.

What should I check while waiting?

  • The email address used for the application, including its spam or junk folder.
  • Messages from UKVI requesting further information or giving the decision.
  • Messages from the visa application centre about appointments or document handling.
  • The current published processing time for the particular visa route and service selected.

Keep your application reference and a record of your biometrics date. Avoid repeatedly submitting enquiries while your application is still within the published processing time unless UKVI has requested a response or there is a specific issue.

Does “a decision has been made” mean the visa was approved?

No. It means a decision has been recorded, but the message may not state the outcome. Wait for the formal decision email or letter and follow the instructions it contains. Our UK visa forum includes questions about decision messages and eVisas.

Can I check my UKVI account or eVisa instead?

A UKVI account lets a person access their digital immigration status when it is available. It is not a substitute for the formal decision process while an application is pending. If the application succeeds and an eVisa is issued, follow UKVI’s instructions to access it and check the details.

See our guide explaining what a UK eVisa is and how it works.

What if the published processing time has passed?

First confirm that you are measuring from the correct starting point and looking at the right visa category. Check whether UKVI has emailed you about a delay or requested documents. If the application is beyond the published time, use the official UKVI contact service to find the relevant route for an enquiry.

A contact-centre response may be limited and may not predict the outcome. If the delay concerns a time-sensitive event or a serious issue with the decision or notification, the next step depends on the individual facts.

Travel plans: UKVI advises against booking travel before receiving a decision. Processing times are estimates, and a decision notification is different from an appointment or document-handling update.

Where can I ask a question?

Post a general question in our UK visas and immigration forum. For a private case assessment, contact Thai Visa Express with the visa category, biometrics date and wording of any notification. Do not post passport numbers, GWF references or private decision letters publicly.
