UK Immigration Updates | What Applicants Should Check

UK immigration rules and application processes change regularly. An older article, visa checklist or approval from a previous year may no longer reflect the requirements for an application made today. If you are applying from Thailand, check the rules for your specific visa route before submitting the form or paying a fee.

This page was originally published during the COVID-19 period. Those temporary travel and processing arrangements are historical. The points below explain where changes most often affect applicants and where to check the current position.

Check the correct visa route

The rules differ depending on whether you plan to visit, marry, study, work or live with a partner in the UK. A Thai citizen making a temporary family visit will normally need a Standard Visitor visa, while a person moving to live with a spouse or partner must consider the relevant family route.

Start with our UK visitor visa guide for Thai citizens if the trip is temporary. If you are unsure which route applies, explain your actual plans before choosing an application form.

Check the evidence and financial rules

Supporting-document requirements vary by route and can change. The form, covering explanation and evidence should give a consistent account of the applicant’s circumstances. Check any financial threshold, specified evidence and translation requirements against the guidance in force when you apply.

If you have been refused before, read the refusal letter and address the reasons given. Our guide on a refused UK visitor visa explains why repeating the same application may not resolve the problem.

Check how your documents and identity are submitted

Most applications begin online. Depending on the route and instructions issued during the application, the applicant may need to upload supporting documents and attend a visa application centre to provide fingerprints and a photograph. Our UK visa document upload guide explains the current options in Thailand, including self-upload and VFS Document Upload Assistance.

Check your eVisa and travel details

UK immigration status is increasingly held digitally as an eVisa. Before travelling, check that you can access your UKVI account, that your permission is shown correctly and that your current passport details are linked to the account. Follow the instructions issued with your own visa decision.

Where can I find official UK immigration updates?

For a rule change, check the relevant visa page and the date it was last updated. The UK Visas and Immigration page on GOV.UK provides official announcements and links to application guidance. You can also use the GOV.UK visa checker to start identifying the appropriate route.

How Thai Visa Express can help

We can review your circumstances against the current requirements, identify the right application route and help organise the supporting evidence. Tell us the applicant’s nationality, where they are applying, the purpose of travel and whether there has been a previous refusal.
