It seems that more and more British nationals are considering their options in Thailand and returning to the UK may just be one of those options. This can be very straightforward if you are single but if you have a Thai wife and she is looking at living in the UK with you, it is vital that she has the correct visa and by the this we mean the UK Marriage Visa, often referred to as the UK Spouse Visa. There are naturally a number of restrictions in place with this visa, not least the UK’s strict financial restrictions.
Most of the UK financial restrictions on the Spouse Visa have been in place since July 2012 but there were some minor amendments made on 20th January 2017 that allow applicants for the UK Spouse Visa to consider third-party funding. This means that if the standard £18,600 p.a. income is not met by the sponsoring partner a third-party can assist. This is not possible in all cases but it is something that our team here at Thai Visa Express would be happy to discuss with you.
As is the case with many UK Visas, the UK Spouse Visa requires sponsors to earn, as mentioned, £18,600 p.a. Where dependent children are concerned an additional £3,800 is required for the first child and then an additional £2,400 p.a. for each additional child – which can, on occasions, cause some issues and may be one of the reasons for requiring third-party additional funding in order to obtain the UK Spouse Visa and the appropriate visas for dependents.
Savings can also be considered to make up any shortfall but these must be multiplied by 2.5 in order to make up the said shortfall. In some cases, this can be quite a complex formula especially if income is coming from a variety of sources. Thankfully, as we deal with UK Spouse Visas on a daily basis we have become very adept at carrying out the necessary calculations.
Sadly, lots of families have suffered due to poor advice and indeed here at Thai Visa Express we are happy to take on applications for UK Spouse Visas that have been rejected in the past. We understand the stress and pressure that can be placed upon individuals and we do all we can to ease this burden and try to ensure that your application is successful and reunites families as should always be the case.
