When you submit your application to the Home Office to become a British citizen, you must pay all fees at this point. Failure to pay the fees will mean that your application is invalid, and you will be charged a £25 admin fee. All fees should be paid by cashiers’ check, credit card, or debit card, as cash is no longer accepted.
Are the fees refundable?
The application fee is made up of two elements:
- Handling Fee: The handling fee is for processing your application. If you withdraw your application or it is rejected, you will not get this fee back in any circumstances.
- Citizenship Ceremony: The fee relates to the ceremony when you will be sworn in as a British citizen. If you do not complete the application for British citizenship, this part of the fee may be refundable.
